VOICES OF TENACITY

Fatumata Kaba

During my three years at Tenacity, my family, friends, and teachers have seen a huge change in me.  My love for reading has expanded and I love tennis with a passion.  Tenacity has definitely made a huge impact in my life and I'm glad that I decided to join.  It's a place where you don't have to be afraid to love reading or just being yourself...

OUR TENNIS CURRICULUM APPROACH

Our mission at Tenacity is to give our students the experience and skills necessary to become lifelong players. Becoming a lifelong player begins with enjoyment, and enjoyment is inherently tied to success. Our goal for the upcoming year is to make success more immediately accessible to beginners through progressive-based tennis education.

Enjoyment on a tennis court inevitably boils down to Success. Children who are initially unsuccessful, especially in the presence of peers, are known to avoid further failure by opting not to play, whereas those that are initially successful are hard-pressed to release their grip on the racquet when you go to pull it out of their hands. Our focus is on giving students the basic skills to play the game in the first few sessions so that they can enjoy this wonderful game. By adjusting the court size, racquet size and ball speed we set students up so that they can begin playing the game rather that participating in drills from the beginning of their time with Tenacity.

Another often over-looked piece to enjoyment on court is the element of competition. We, as humans, love to compete. Whether it is against a long-time rival, in search of record book glory, or simply in the effort to improve, competition drives us, and in turn, is the strongest hook we have in our young beginners. The beauty of progressive tennis is that children can be expected to begin competing successfully after merely a few sessions, rather than the end of a season. The sooner we get kids at a comfortable level to compete, the greater the enticement to play.
