Tenacity has extended the Pathway to Post Secondary Success to elementary grades with our Elementary School Program (EP), established in 2011, to foster a positive, competitive spirit in young BPS students while providing valuable lessons in self-control and sports etiquette.

Tenacity tennis instructors run tennis clinics during the school day for 4th and 5th graders at The Mario Umana K-8 Academy in East Boston and Dever-McCormack K-8 School in Dorchester.  The clinics are offered twice a month to introduce the Tenacity Pathway to students who are preparing for middle school.

Our Middle School Academy (MSA) has a long history of success at both the Mario Umana and the Dever-McCormack making these schools the perfect location to launch our pilot program.  EP students who find they love the games playing, camaraderie, and interaction with our staff are encouraged to join the Pathway by applying to MSA.

By employing the Ten-And-Under-Tennis teaching method, we have made significant strides in keeping students actively engaged in various competitions and tournaments.  Tennis is a new game for our students, and Ten-And-Under-Tennis allows for faster stroke progression and rallying success by using smaller courts and foam balls.  After learning forehands, backhands, and volleys, the students progress quickly to playing games such as King of the Court.

Tenacity’s 4th grade students and teacher from Mario Umana K-8 Academy in East Boston share their experiences with our Elementary Program:

"Tenacity has been a wonderful experience for my students. They truly enjoy working with the staff to learn more about the sport of tennis. It also builds a sense of community and has helped my students work together as a team. They have clearly brought the skills that they have learned on the tennis court into the classroom, and it has helped them immensely as they take on the academic challenges throughout the school day."
-Claire Rheaume, Grade 4 Teacher

"Tenacity is the best program because of the activities and they teach you a lot about tennis. When I first started tenacity I was bad but the coolest coach taught me and now I know how to play! Thanks Tenacity!"-Daniel Mancio-Alecio

"Tenacity is the best program to learn tennis.  It has fun games like King of the Court. I feel that Tenacity teaches you a great deal of tennis, and at the same time you get to experience what talent you have." -Melissa Castaneda-Vargas

"Tenacity is the best program I have ever participated in, because I get to play tennis and learn great skills. It also gets me pumped up for the day ahead of me!" -Michael

"Tenacity is the best thing I've done because you can learn more about teamwork. You learn how to play games. You work together as a team to be as good as them." -Allyssa Quigley
