TENACITY ALUMNI COACH



Students who graduate from our middle school After School Excellence Program (ASEP) become part of our Tenacity Alumni Services Program, where they can continue to receive academic and personal support, as well as get involved in other opportunities. We need your help to continue to support these students throughout high school!



Volunteer Description:

Tenacity Alumni Coaches are tutors, mentors and role models for graduates of our middle school After School Excellence Program. Coaches meet and communicate regularly with students in order to support them academically and personally throughout their high school years. Coaches are matched with students through Tenacity based on availability, the coach’s skills, and the student’s needs. They are a critical part of the Alumni Services Program in that they provide guidance and personal support that we are unable to give all of our 200 alumni.



What do Tenacity Alumni Coaches Do?

  • Meet and communicate with student on a regular basis and establish a relationship with student to help him/her achieve their personal and academic goals.

  • Provide tutoring and academic assistance when necessary for student

  • Help student develop skills in the following areas:Resourcefulness/navigation,Problem solving, Communication,Self advocacy,Self awareness.

  • Serve as a positive role model for student

  • Communicate and report regularly to Tenacity Alumni Services


What do you need to be a Tenacity Alumni Coach?

  • College experience or degree required

  • Ability to commit to volunteering for at least 1 academic year (September – June)

  • Ability to meet or communicate with a student at least once a week

  • Open to working with urban youth (previous experience not a requirement but beneficial)

  • Ability to effectively communicate with teens

  • Sensitivity to people from different economic, social, cultural or racial backgrounds

  • Be a positive role model

  • Proficiency in one or more core high school subjects

  • Spanish speaking is a plus
