The Boston Athletic Association selects Tenacity as an Official Charity of the 2017 Boston Marathon®
BOSTON, MA, September 12, 2016 – Tenacity is thrilled to announce that we have been selected to be part of the 2017 Boston Marathon® Official Charity Program. According to the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), the Official Charity Program “supports select nonprofit organizations that strengthen our local community and provides these organizations with a significant fundraising opportunity.”
As a member of the 2017 Boston Marathon® Official Charity Program, Tenacity will receive 15 invitational Marathon entries. Funds raised by the 2017 Tenacity Marathon Team will support Tenacity’s Pathway Program, which serves over 5,000 students a year. Since 2013, Tenacity Marathon Team runners have raised over $580,000.
Founded in 1999, Tenacity’s mission is to improve the scholastic, character, and physical development of Boston youth. The organization’s ultimate goal is to close the opportunity and achievement gaps that exist for students living in under-resourced Boston communities. Through a combination of outcomes-based academic enrichment, mentoring, family engagement, and tennis/fitness coaching, Tenacity’s programs offer a Pathway to Post-Secondary Success that improves educational outcomes for students and increases graduation rates. Tenacity maintains a 95% high school graduation rate, with 70% of those graduates either enrolled in or having completed college. For more information on Tenacity’s Pathway programs, visit www.tenacity.org.
Caroline Lane, a longtime member of Tenacity’s Board of Directors, will continue as Tenacity’s B.A.A. Charity Program Liaison and Team Manager. Lindsey Woods, Tenacity’s Director of Annual Giving and Special Events, will co-manage the team and fundraising activities. Caroline shared: “We are grateful to the B.A.A. for inviting us back into the Charity Program, and I am thrilled to lead a new team toward two significant goals – completing the Boston Marathon – every marathoner’s dream – and raising awareness and funds for Tenacity’s programs.”
